Dyelot Woes
I recently made a pair of socks for myself using what looked like a full skein of Madeline Tosh Sock yarn in the Copper Penny colorway that I bought about a year ago. After I finished the first sock, I was pretty sure I didn't have enough to complete the mate so I ordered another skein. Look at the difference in dyelot! I don't mind mis-matched socks, but the difference in dyelots was sure to look like a glaring mistake. So, I started the second sock with the new, darker dyelot, then changed back to the original when I thought I had enough to finish the sock. The color change shouldn't show when I'm wearing long pants.

I've had to do the same thing, except my color change was on the foot and toe cause I thought no one would see it.
I like your color choice, "copper penny". Even the name sounds good. And the pattern is great. Looking forward to seeing it.
Wow, that's a BIG difference. I guess that's the point of having a dyelot, but that's such a huge variation that it makes me wonder how anyone could order that yarn from looking at a photo online. I love madelinetosh, but I'll have to remember to always buy extra if the dyelots vary as much as this!
I was at a workshop given by the owner of madelinetosh, and she said that she only runs dyelots of two skeins at a time. So if you are making a big project, make sure you alternate skeins with this yarn, otherwise you may end up with a surprise.
I was using a white yarn to make a sampler crochet afghan for my parents. I didn't pay attention to dye lot and due to the large amount of yarn I needed I didn't buy it all at once. I ended up with bright white, yellow white, and cream colored squares. Luckily, I was able to stitch them together so it looked intentional. I ALWAYS check my dye lots now.
