Handy Sweaters--Register to Win

There's more! Those e-media folks at Interweave have also turned The Knitter's Handy Book of Sweater Patterns into an app for the iPad (sorry, I was told earlier that it was available for the iPhone as well, but that is incorrect). Appropriately called Handy Sweaters, this "handy" app, provides instructions for more than 1,500 sweater design options, including drop shoulder, modified-drop shoulder, set-in sleeve, saddle shoulder, raglan, and circular yoke silhouettes--all in multiple sizes and multiple gauges--at the touch of a finger.

Comment to this post (only one entry per person, please) and tell me why you'd like Handy Sweaters, and I'll draw a lucky winner Sunday, March 25.

Hi Ann, I'd really enjoy and utilize this sweater app! Plus, I have never once won anything on any site I've ever registered for! I know, I know.
Loved your most recent book - it is truly making me a better sock knitter!

i was thrilled to see these "handy" books in digital format, and already bought the Handy Patterns app, so now I need sweaters to complete my collection. Please?

This would be so awesome! Easy to carry and I can take it with me to jury duty to plan my next sweater since they won't let me actually knit one while I'm there.

My hubby just bought me an iPad for my birthday and I would love to work with this app. Thanks for the opportunity! Drawing March 15th though> I think that ship has sailed...did you mean the 25th?

I've never made a sweater, though I have a bag of yarn waiting to be made into one ... this app would be nice and portable so I could take my project to the yarn store whenever I needed help!

Well, for heaven's sake, why WOULDN'T I want this book! I lose my paper copies all the time; so far I've had much better luck with my phone. I would love to be able to look it up.

Elizabeth D said...

Um -- I meant look it up ON MY PHONE. And also, I'm guessing MArch 15 is the wrong date for the drawing?

I like handy sweaters because it's so cool to create smth only with the yarn and the needles! Also, very important thing - the handy sweaters usually knitted with the good quality yarn. I'm knittinh only from natural fibre...

It would be so great to have all of this info at my finger tips when ever I need it! Nothing is worse than when inspiration strikes and you're away from home/the resources you need.

My comment didn't make it this morning, so trying again. This would be a great app for me if it helps me finish the sweater I started well over a year ago. Thanks for the giveaway.

Hi Ann,
I love the book and I love apps...so...I think I would love this app!
I have an iPhone and am very close to getting an iPad. Winning this app might push me over the edge.

I tried and tried to think of something really clever that you wouldn't be able to resist but finally realized that occasionally the truth wins the day. I have never knit (knitted?) a sweater, being obsessed by socks, and my husband finally said these crushing words about a month ago: Are you ever going to learn to knit anything else?

Sigh.

Hi!
First of all let me say I'm in awe of your Socks Masterclass, it is great!
I was just looking into this sweater book the other day, as I have plenty of ideas for decoration but lack the "form", it's like having in your head lots of toppings but no clue as to how to bake the actual cake you'd cover witht hose toppings..
So here goes, let my try my luck at winning this app, it would be great!
Have a good day,
Liisa

This book is an awesome reference for even amateur designers like me. The selection of the patterns provides for endless mix and match combos (raglan sleeves, crew neck; raglan sleeves, V-neck...). All the math is calculated, and how wonderful is that when you're substituting yarns in a pattern you already have?

This app sounds awesome! I enjoy designing and reworking patterns to make them my own! I am also a 'very big girl' so I have to adjust them! My iPod has become my 'go to' place for storage of most of my knitting info, patterns, stash, tips, videos etc. I will probably buy the app anyway but free is a price I can't resist! ;}

I would love to have access to all of these pattern references with me all the time.

It would be so cool the get this! I am finishing up my first cardigan now and am ready to tackle more. Thanks for the opportunity!

Who wouldn't want to have this resource always handy? The book is fantastic, the app would be even handier!

Your Knit Handy app is great! I've only knitted top-down sweaters (am looking forward to your top-down app for sure) and would like to learn other ways. I generally prefer how-tos rather than patterns. Congrats on creating these fabulous tools in addition to your books!

How awesome it would be to have this app on my iPad.

As other people have said, who could refuse such an offer! I think that someone who owns your Handy Books could knit forever without needing another pattern! Thanks, Nicola (nicolaknits.wordpress.com)

I've never made a sweater knitted by hand only by knitting machine. I would like to have every tool to be a success.

Looking back over my knitting projects through the years, almost all of my favorite sweaters (fit well, lots of compliments from knitters and non-knitters alike) have been ones that I have taken yarn bought without a specific pattern in mind and chosen a simple sillhouette and a texture/color pattern that shows off the yarn.

I have used your handy books more times than I can count, but since I take my iPad with me more frequently, I think the app would be even more useful.

Thanks for making this possible!

Because I don't have it and would use it - a lot.

There are just some many reason that any knitter would love to have this app that a more difficult question would be "why not"!!!!

Thanks creating the book and offering a free app!!

My new iPad would love this app (and so would I)! In fact, the whole reason I got an iPad was to manage my knitting stuff (patterns, blogs, podcasts, notes, etc.) on something that I could carry with me on trips and to knitting stores. Thanks so much for sharing!
